Capacitance response and concentration fluctuations close to ionic liquid-solvent demixing

چکیده

We investigate the concentration fluctuations in a simple model of electrolyte (two positively and negatively charged Lennard-Jones spheres solution an uncharged liquid) confined between electrodes formed by parallel graphene layers. Using constant potential molecular dynamics simulations extensive charge effect proximity to demixing transition on electric double layers is analyzed compared results our continuum mean field theory. In agreement with previous theoretical findings, we observe considerable enhancement capacitance when temperature lowered approaching for dilute ionic solutions. This less visible increased. Moreover, new shape capacitance, maximum at zero charge, symmetric maxima positive negative voltages.

Concentration Fluctuations and Capacitive Response in Dense Ionic Solutions.

We use molecular dynamics simulations in a constant potential ensemble to study the effects of solution composition on the electrochemical response of a double layer capacitor. We find that the capacitance first increases with ion concentration following its expected ideal solution behavior but decreases upon approaching a pure ionic liquid in agreement with recent experimental observations. Th...

Solvent cages of ionic liquid: structure and effect on catalysis

Introduction Ionic liquids are a class of novel solvents with extremely high polarity [1]. Immobilization of organometallic complexes in thin films of supported ionic liquid has recently been suggested as a novel concept to combine the high selectivity of homogeneous catalysts with the easy separation of a heterogeneous system [2]. First catalytic studies show a high potential of these systems ...

Unimolecular Solvolyses in Ionic Liquid: Alcohol Dual Solvent Systems.

A study was undertaken of the solvolysis of pivaloyl triflate in a variety of ionic liquid:alcohol solvent mixtures. The solvolysis is a kΔ process (i.e., a process in which ionization occurs with rearrangement), and the resulting rearranged carbocation intermediate reacts with the alcohol cosolvent via two competing pathways: nucleophilic attack or elimination of a proton. Five different ionic...

Aqueous biphasic systems composed of ionic liquids and polypropylene glycol: insights into their liquid-liquid demixing mechanisms.

Novel ternary phase diagrams of aqueous biphasic systems (ABSs) composed of polypropylene glycol with an average molecular weight of 400 g mol(-1) (PPG-400) and a vast number of ionic liquids (ILs) were determined. The large array of selected ILs allowed us to evaluate their tuneable structural features, namely the effect of the anion nature, cation core and cation alkyl side chain length on th...
